40 YEARS AS A REFERENCE POINT FOR GOLF IN SARDINIA
The golf course project, and the club was conceived in the early 70s. The project was assigned to the prestigious field of Studio Cotton signature Pennink & Partners. The golf club was opened in 1975 and soon became a great resource for Southern Sardinia.
Is Molas in 1976 hosted for the first time the Italian Open. The tournament, exciting and fought for, saw the triumph of Baldwin Dassù together with the finalists Pinero and Mason.
The second Italian Open followed in 1982 and the winner was M. James. The reputation of Is Molas grew up to the 80s, a period in which the championship course of law entered in the Top 100 worldwide. In 1989 the club hosted Volvo Masters, won by the then rising star Vijay Singh.
In 1999 the range was expanded with the creation of the Yellow Course by Franco Piras, representative in Italy of Gary Player Design. The Italian Open was again held in Sardinia, at Is Molas Golf Club, in 2000 and 2001. They were respectively Polter and Havret to win these editions of the tournament.
In the summer of 2005, Is Molas golf club celebrated its thirtieth anniversary with a magnificent party by the pool.
Is Molas in 2011 hosted the European Championships Model Team.
